About Osaka Monastery

A Sacred Place of Learning and Practicing

Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery in Osaka is a branch of the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery organization, which originated in Sri Lanka. The monastery follows the Theravada Buddhist tradition and was established to serve the growing Sri Lankan Buddhist community in Japan, particularly in the Osaka area.

The Mahamevnawa movement was founded by Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero in Sri Lanka in 1999, with the aim of teaching pure Buddhist doctrine and meditation practices. The organization has since expanded internationally, establishing branches in various countries including Japan.

It provides a place where expatriate Sri Lankans can maintain their religious practices and cultural connections while living in Japan.
